Even though 贝 and i are not Christian, we would have Christmas eve dinner every year and exchange Christmas gifts as well.
This year, however, was an exception.
First of all, i haven't fully recovered from the flu yet. I'm still coughing badly and am still taking the antibiotics. Also, having spent so much on the new home, we are quite broke this year. We decided to skip the dinner to save some money, since Christmas eve dinners are always very expensive. There isn't really much i can eat anyway.
What we did last night was went over to the hawker center opposite our home and had a fish steamboat dinner, as it was raining for the whole of yesterday and the weather was just nice for something warm and soupy. It wasn't really something that befit the holiday season, but it was delicious and we enjoyed it very much.
As for the Christmas gifts, we had already bought it more than a month back.
We had breakfast at Starbucks one morning in November and saw that the Christmas merchandise was already out on the shelves. We each picked a mug and bought for each other as Christmas gift.
We then kept the gifts and exchanged them last night. 贝 actually packed the gift nicely in a box and wrapping paper, which is very nice of him, as i just passed the gift to him in the same paper bag as when we bought it.
Anyway, here's 贝's mug.
And here's mine... with a cute Starbucks reindeer as well.
So, despite being sick and broke, it was still a nice Christmas day. I guess the most important thing is not about what you do or what you get for Christmas, but who you spent it with.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas as well!
