So this is how Acer does QC on DVD-ROM?

Over these few weeks, 贝 was in the process of setting up a few laptops for the company. Today, he opened up a new Acer laptop and to his surprise, there was a DVD in the DVD-ROM!

He took a closer look at the DVD and it was a copy of the movie "Spider-Man 2":

As it was a new laptop and no one from his company had touched it at all, this DVD most probably came from Acer. I couldn't recall Acer having a deal that says "buy a laptop and get a free (duplicated) Spider-Man 2 DVD", so i presume this was the QC tool for the DVD-ROM.

Hmmm, i wonder what movie they are using now for the QC since this piece is missing...

are you sure the dvd is from Acer? I don't think they actually put a DVD disc to test the drive.

Yes, we are sure because:

1) No one had access to the new laptop and it was received directly from Acer. While 贝 was doing the set up, he noticed that there seemed to be some problems with the DVD-ROM. Someone from Acer might have noticed it too and was doing testing with the DVD and forgot to remove it before delivering to the customer.

In fact, this wasn't the first time that Acer sent faulty hardware to customer. 贝 had received a new laptop before that couldn't even start up and Acer gotta exchange it with another one in the end (faulty motherboard). There was another instance when the touch pad of a new laptop couldn't function at all and later they found out that it was not connected to the motherboard. Talk about QA huh!

2) Actually it wasn't something new that a disc was left inside the drive. 贝 had a similar experience with IBM. He sent a notebook to IBM for repair and it came back with an IBM utility CD in the DVD-ROM. However, for this instance with Acer, i was rather taken aback because it was supposed to be a new laptop... and a duplicated "Spider-Man 2"?!
