As we knew that the cab and tuk-tuk drivers would charge the tourists more than the actual fare, we decided to ask around for the reasonable price in taking these modes of transportation. The person whom i asked told us that it would be easier and cheaper if we just take a direct bus from where we were to the Golden Mountain.
It was our first day in Bangkok and everyone was still in the adventurous mood, so we decided to go for it. We spent some time studying the route of the bus and what number of bus would bring us there. We waited for quite a while at the bus stop because of the traffic congestion.
While we were waiting there, Ting suddenly left out a cry. We then saw bird droppings on her shoulder and bag. Gee, what's the odds that you actually get the present from the sky just a few hours after you set foot in a foreign land? I don't know if that's considered lucky or unlucky, but to see it from a lighter side, perhaps it's a sign that her prayers to the Buddha will be answered.
Anyway, after Ting cleaned up the bird's mess, we waited for a while more and finally got on to the bus. And the bus, oh boy, it sure reminded me of my schooling days. There was no aircon and it was making all kinds of sound. There was even a fan above the driver's seat. Gosh, it was so 1980s.
We passed by a stretch of shopping malls and decided that this will be one of our shopping destinations.
The bus ride took us quite some time, partly due to the distance and mainly due to the traffic condition. We alighted at the nearest stop to the Golden Mountain according to the map and then headed towards the destination on foot. Yet again, we were cheated by the map. It turned out that we got off at a few stops earlier and it was quite a distance to walk.
And so, we walked and walked and walked.
In retrospect, it may actually be a good thing after all, because we got to see the daily lives of the Thai people on the streets.
There were hawkers selling some grilled fish covered in salt.
And we also saw this sign everywhere, which 貝 jokingly said that we were in the territory of BN, but it has formed an alliance with PAS.
That was kinda ironic, considering just a few days before the trip, we had our most shocking election result and BN had the worst defeat in the history of our country.
