I think, therefore I write -- take two

I used to love writing, a lot... when i was younger, i even aspired to be a journalist or writer. Not that i don't love it anymore, but i find it harder to write these days. It has become harder to get the right words to express my feeling and thoughts.

This is a real irony -- the older i get, the more i experience and the more i read as well. The more i experience, the more i think; the more i read, the more vocabularies i learned. However, when i attempt to put my thoughts into words, the right words always seem to be so difficult to come to mind. Well, maybe it's just me. It has nothing to do with age but my own lack of flair in writing. That was perhaps why my childhood aspiration never became a reality.

When i was browsing through other blogs, i discovered that these people could really write! The ideas, the story, the style of writing, the humour... it's like we are having so many Carrie Bradshaw on the Web. How i wish i can write like them, but unfortunately it may just remain as a wish forever...

Is writing a talent that comes naturally, or a skill that can be nurtured? I think writing well is a skill that can be improved through practice, but to write like a real writer, it requires more than just getting the grammar right or using all the big words or structuring the sentences correctly. A real writer is a person who sees things from a different perspective than the usual people. She is someone who thinks differently and then has the ability to express her unique thoughts into words. She is a sensitive person who feels deeply for things in life and can convey these feelings through words that move the readers. She enjoys writing because she has the desire to share her thoughts and feelings with others. Simply, she is just a person who thinks, who feels, who expresses and who shares. I think these qualities are born and can hardly be instilled. I guess that's why not everyone who writes well can become a writer in the end.

Well, thanks to the Web, many people have been fulfilling their dreams through blog! People like us, who love writing, can just pretend that we are publishing something we wrote for millions of people out there to read. However, the harsh reality is that the only person who ever read your blog may just be yourself. Anyway, as long as there's a medium such as this, we can just ignore the cruel reality and continue to make believe that we are what we hope we are.
