The plan for our second day in Bangkok was to visit the three must-see tourist attractions: the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun. It was a day with lots of walking, lots of boat rides, and excessive heat from the hot weather. I'm not exaggerating if i say that the total distance i walked that day, or the total number of boat rides i had that day, or even the total number of hours i spent under the sun that day, were more than that for the entire year.
At around 8am in the morning, we had the complementary breakfast in the hotel. It was buffet breakfast with not much variety. I'd say the food was only so-so compared to the other hotels i've stayed at before.
After breakfast, we walked to the Phloen Chit BTS station and took the skytrain to Saphan Taksin. A short walk from the Saphan Taksin station brought us to the Sathorn Central Pier, where we got our tickets for the Chao Phraya Tourist Boat.
The tickets cost us THB120 each, with unlimited pier-to-pier rides on any of the boats operated by the Chao Phraya Express Boat Co from 9.30am to 7.30pm. We could get off at any piers to explore the place and then get back on to the boat to another place.
Boats are one of the important and common mode of transportation for the people in Bangkok. It was also a good way to save time, given the terrible traffic condition in the city.
Our first destination was the Tien Pier, where we could get to Wat Pho from there.
While on the boat, we enjoyed the scenery along the river, and was snapping away with our cameras.
Among all the Wat (temples) in this Buddhist nation, we saw a small church by the river (the Holy Rosary Church).
According to the tour guide on the boat, this condo with a nice river view is one of the most expensive in the city.
We passed underneath the Memorial Bridge.
And here's a short video clip i took on board the tourist boat, with the tour guide talking in the background with his Thai accent.
