Four types of people who can succeed in the corporate world

  1. Those geniuses. They are so intelligent, capable and charismatic that they simply shine wherever they go. They excel in everything they do since young, be it academic endeavour or extracurricular activities. These people are born to be extraordinary and successful.

  2. Those who work like a dog. They are first in the office and last to go. You see them working during lunch hour, weekends and even public holidays. They hardly take medical leave (even when sick) and have over 30 days of unconsumed annual leave. Their success comes slow and steady.

  3. Those who have the benefits of relations ("guan xi"):

    i) Boot-lickers. They lunch with the boss, share secrets with the boss, buy gifts for the boss and the boss' family, play golf with the boss, compliment the boss on a hideous hairdo, and go out for happy hour with the boss.

    Or

ii) The beneficiaries of nepotism and cronyism. They are the nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, ex-colleagues, school mates, friends, friend's friends, or mistress of the important people in the company.

  4. Those darn lucky people who were born with lucky horseshoes up their asses. They are not necessarily smarter or work harder than anyone else. Just plain lucky. They are so blessed that even when they step on a pile of dog shit, they find a hundred dollars note right beside it.

Sad to say that i'm no Einstein. I'm lazy. I don't suck up to the boss and i suck terribly at pulling strings. I'm not connected to any big guns in any large corporations. And i wasn't born with anything U-shaped up my ass.

So, 'nuff said.
