(Today's post, unlike the previous ones, is gonna be image-intensive...)
贝's brother drove us to Future Park Rangsit, the largest shopping mall in Thailand.
The mall area was big and crowded. The parking lots were full and it was a practice that when there wasn't enough parking space, the people would park their cars perpendicularly behind other cars and leave the handbrake free. The car owners who wanted to leave the place but had other cars blocking their way would have to push the cars behind to free up the path. We chose not to block the way of other cars because we didn't want people pushing the car and possibly causing it to knock on the other cars. So we spent quite some time looking for a parking space
There was an exhibition in the mall that would send 贝 jumping in joy.
贝 likes Ultraman and he collects the toy figures of Ultraman, very much like i'm a Peanuts collector (the cartoon that features Snoopy, not the nut itself), but only that his collection is relatively less than mine.
The exhibition covered a wide area in the mall where there were sections selling different Ultraman merchandise:
There were also human-size figures of various Ultraman (or do we say "Ultramen"?):
and even Ultrawoman:
There was also live show of Ultraman fighting the villains on stage but they spoke in Thai and we had no idea what they were talking about. There was a section that sold Ultraman toys and 贝 found one that was really exquisite and definitely a must-have collectible for anyone who loves Ultraman:
The figure is about 34cm in height and very lifelike with fine detail in brushwork. Here are the full-body portraits:
and half-body portraits:
This was something that wasn't on our shopping list but was too dainty to pass up, even if it meant that we needed to allocate quite some space for it in our luggage.
Other than this Ultraman toy, we didn't buy anything much there. We decided to head back to MBK Center where we had visited the day before to continue shopping and also to have dinner there.
We had dinner in a restaurant that served Yong Tau Foo (酿豆腐) in Thai style. 贝's brother ordered for us a bowl of flat wide rice noodles in broth cooked with red-fermented tofu cheese (腐乳, or fu ru). I googled for the dish and I think it's called "Yen Ta Fo" in Thai. It has a unique taste and we liked it.
贝 and i returned to the inn at around 11pm with lots of shopping bags. We packed our luggages and realized that we had bought lots of stuffs. When we departed from Singapore, we had only one checked-in luggage but when we were leaving Bangkok, we had two checked-in and two hand luggages. That was why i think i had really made a fruitful trip this time.
