The 8th Foon Yew Treasure Hunt (I)

The theme of the treasure hunt this year was "九州风情", or loosely translated as "the culture of Negeri Sembilan". Uh huh, the game took us from JB all the way to Port Dickson.

Similar to the event held two years ago, each team was given a booklet that contained the map and the clues. We gotta search for the answers to the clues en route, and the answer could be anything from the name of a shop, the name of a famous person, the history of the town, to a thing that is representative of a place.

For most questions, we gotta snap a picture of the answer in addition to writing down the answer on the sheet provided in the booklet. What was different from last year was that we just have to take the picture of the answer without having one of the group members holding the question number in the picture.

This year, there were a lot more participants than the previous one. There were 87 cars in total, with 3 or 4 members in each group. The first three prizes were very attractive, with the 1st prize of RM1.5k in cash and 2nd prize RM1k in cash.

Our car was no. 9, while Sui's group was No. 10. There were five of us in the group -- KT (the driver), Carol (the navigator), Siang and her little four-year-old daughter, and me. The original team was actually KT, Carol, 贝 and me (we called ourselves "the dream team"), but it was a rare chance that Siang's return from Japan was coincide with the treasure hunt, and also 贝 wanted to watch the badminton game on tv, so he gave up his place for Siang. That turned out to be a right move because 贝 became our 6th remote member who helped to search for the answers on the Web, without whom we wouldn't have won the 13th place at all. After the game, we were jokingly telling each other that 贝 would never get to go to any of the future trip anymore because he gotta be our backup at home for helping us to crack the clues.

Having Siang and her little daughter with us was fun. It has been ages since Siang and i went on a trip together; it was just like we were back to highschool time, with the added joy of her cute little daughter of course. That Japanese little girl was such adorable and lovely kid that if all kids were like her, i would seriously consider having my own!

Then of course, a little bit of disadvantage was that little girl didn't know what we were doing and Siang needed to be by her side, so sometimes we would have one person less to search for the clues. But then, our aim was to enjoy the game and not really winning it, so it didn't matter at all.

I'll write about the hunt tomorrow, as i've not yet gotten the limited number of pictures and scanned booklet ready. Unlike the trip two years ago, i only took a few photos this time. During the game, i gotta concentrate in solving the clues and couldn't divert my attention to taking pictures that were unrelated to the clues. Then the day after, we didn't go anywhere else at Port Dickson, and i was too tired and dozed off in the car.

Anyway, with close to 400 participants, there bound to have some who already blogged about the trip. Here's a forum with some pictures from the treasure hunt to look at since i don't have much to show. And in case you are wondering, no, i'm not in any of those pictures.
