The 8th Foon Yew Treasure Hunt (V)

7.00pm to 9.30pm

We had our buffet dinner at the convention hall. Well, it wasn't really a buffet dinner, as there were just three or four dishes to go with rice and some fruits for dessert. Considering the price we were paying (RM550 for 4 persons, RM660 for 5), i guess it wasn't too bad, except that the portion wasn't enough to go around for everyone. It was either we had lots of big eaters among the participants, or everyone was famished after a long day.

The answers to the questions were then revealed. There were cheering, clapping, sighing, bleating, and all kinds of sound from all tables in the hall when the organizer showed us the answers on the slides. Our group got 31 questions correct (out of 45 questions), just about three or four more than Sui's team. We believed that we had a high chance of at least winning the consolation prize.

The answers to the SMS questions and the winning teams were also announced. Some teams really had the "fastest fingers", as they had sent in their answers through SMS even before we were out of the starting line. There were ten hampers to be given out to the winners of each SMS question.

There were two SMS questions that none of the participants had gotten the answer correct. So the organizer gave out more clues and asked the participants to write down the answer on a piece of paper and hand it to them. Whichever team that could dash to the front of the hall to submit the right answer first will get the prizes. Our team didn't really bother to attempt because we could never be any faster than the other teams that were so competitive.

After 10.00pm

We adjourned to our apartments respectively after the dinner. Sui came over to our unit to chit-chat for a while. It was bed time for the little girl and we were dog tired too after all the running about and killing our brain cells for the whole day. So we turned in rather early. Gone were the days when we could stay up all night on outings and have a heart-to-heart with each other. Sigh, age is really catching up.

22-Jul-2007

I slept soundly for the night even though sleeping on a single-size mattress on the floor wasn't particularly comfortable. That showed how drained out i was.

We had breakfast at the same convention hall where we had dinner. The winners of the treasure hunt was announced after the breakfast. There were 30 prizes in total, and we were waiting anxiously for our team number to be called.

The winning teams were announced in reversed order. By the time the 20th place was announced, i thought we didn't win anything at all. Just as i was wondering how did all those teams do so good, we heard Team No. 9 being called for the 13th prize. We couldn't contain our excitement and cheered so loudly as if we had won the first prize.

KT and little gal went up the the stage together to receive the prize, which was four umbrellas and a voucher for car servicing that worth RM98. Ok, the prizes were nothing to shout about, but the sense of achievement could have worth everything. We all agreed that we couldn't have done it if it were not for 贝 who helped to do the research from home. Our aim for the next treasure hunt, presumably to be held two years later, is to get into the top ten.

The champion for this year was the same team that won the game in 1996, 1997 and 2000. Whichever team that could win three consecutive games would get to keep the trophy forever. This team had one before. Hmm, i wonder if they were aiming to achieve another 3 more sets of consecutive winnings so that all the team members could keep one trophy each.

And after all the winners were announced, prizes given out and photos taken, the treasure hunt officially came to an end.

Ok, just to quickly sum up what we did after breakfast. Siang and little gal had a brief horseback riding, and then little gal went playing in the swimming pool for a while. We just stood by the pool side wacthing her; it was kinda fun to watch her having fun.

After that, we checked out from the resort and drove back to Port Dickson town. Siang bought some souvenirs for her Japanese family and friends while we took pictures of little gal wearing funny headgear of different culture that were sold in the souvenir shop. We had delicious bat kut teh for lunch and then headed back to JB.

On our way back, we stopped at one of the rest places where there was a shop selling local tidbits. Siang again bought quite some stuff from the shop to bring back to Japan, while i also picked up a few packs of junk food for 贝.

I reached home in the evening, and waved goodbye to Siang and little gal. They were returning to Japan on the following weekend (which was last Saturday) and i would only get to see them again next year. Hopefully by then little gal would still remember me and would call me "Aunt Pin Pin" without anyone reminding her who i am. I'm sure gonna miss them.

Gosh, finally, that's all for the boring narration of the treasure hunt. Will be looking forward to the next round in great anticipation.
