On our way from the BTS station to the hotel on the second night, we passed by a shop (which we shouldn't have passed by if it wasn't because we went the wrong direction) that was having clearance sales on sports wear. We went in to have a look, and later two policemen came in and shop around too.
That was then we took notice of how slim and fit the policemen in Bangkok were. There wasn't even an inch of fat on them. The thing i couldn't figure out was why their uniforms had to be so tight-fitting. The uniforms made them look sexy more than authoritative. Luckily they were all in very good shape and actually looked good in such uniforms. Imagine Msia policemen wearing such uniforms... Argh!!! Get that image out of my head! Ptui! Ptui! Ptui!
Day 3, 21/03/2008
I woke up with aching legs on the 3rd day after all the walking on the day before. We had an early breakfast, as 贝's brother had helped us to arrange for a driver and minivan from 8am to 5pm. We could ask the driver to go anywhere within that 9 hours, and we would have to pay for the fee of hiring him and the vehicle, plus the petrol and toll that were incurred.
We chartered the minivan because our plan for day 3 was to visit the ancient city of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was about 80km+ from Bangkok.
Before the trip, i had done some research and short-listed the places that we'd like to visit in Ayutthaya. We then gave the list to 贝's brother, who knew the place well and could communicate in Thai to the driver who doesn't speak English. So basically, the tour for that day was already pre-planned for us by 贝's brother (including where to lunch).
The weather that day was still burning hot, but the whole experience was almost celestial. I'd say this day tour was the highlight of our trip this time. My only qualm would probably be the absence of a tour guide who could tell us the story behind each historical site.
Uh huh, we didn't know anything about each site, and after the visit, we still didn't know much about the places. Other than being in awe of the magnificence of the architecture and the ancient empire, we didn't bring back much knowledge with us. All we did bring back were the photos and memories.
So, this means that the travel log for day 3 will be more pictures and less narratives.
