Our first stop at Ayutthaya was Wat Yai Chai Mongkol.

There was a religious ceremony of some sort going on at the Wat that day. The place was packed with people. There were some monks of high reverence sitting at the side, and some seemingly rich and famous people paying respect to the monks (we could guess that those people were rich and famous from the way they dressed and the camera that was shooting them).
Pilgrims, with joss sticks and lotus flowers in their hands, circled the big chedi.
I read that if we were to climb up the large chedi in the middle of the courtyard, we would get an excellent view across the flat landscape of Ayutthaya. There was also a large Buddha statue in a niche at the base of the big chedi.
Sadly, with such a big crowd and the on-going ceremony, we couldn't get anywhere near the big chedi to take a picture, let alone ascending it for a view of the city.
It's really unlucky that we went there on the wrong day.
