Uh huh, sad to say, today counts the third day for the system failure. And the network is still down before i left the office.
I spent the whole of today helping the infrastructure team to do the virus cleaning for all PCs in the office. Actually i was supposed to be attending the 2nd day of a corporate induction program, and one of the sessions were to have breakfast with the senior management. In the end not only did i miss the chance to have breakfast with them, i actually didn't eat anything at all until noon.
This is my forth month in the company and i haven't attended a full induction program yet. My corporate induction had been postponed so many times that i thought i could finally get it done and over with this month (the company conducts the induction only once per month). Then this virus attack happened and we needed to mobilize the whole department to get the system up as soon as possible. So i missed it again.
Anyway, we paid for a consultant from the anti-virus software company to come down today. He was supposed to be the expert but there were still many PCs that couldn't be cleaned up due to various reasons and he didn't seem know how to fix them. Initially i thought the anti-virus software was really lousy, but then it was a big name used by many MNCs. Then the more i was involved in the infrastructure issues, the more i realized how disorganized our IT infrastructure is, so much so that i think the disaster we are facing now is actually our own doing. I seriously think that we should hire a very experienced person to revamp the whole IT infrastructure of the company.
It's gonna be a long day again tomorrow. I gotta meet up with the female manager at one of the branches in city to help doing the virus clean-up. The retail floors have been doing manual billing for the past few days. In fact, all departments have been doing manual work. The Finance managers even asked their staff not to come to work today since there was nothing they could do without the system. I think all departments hate us now.
We are having some big events this weekend. It's school holiday now and our neighbour is having their grand opening too, which we could ride on them for more traffic flowing into our store. So, without the system up and running simply means spelling DOOM in big bloody letters. Our heads will roll. Definitely.
