On 19-Aug-07, i participated in a treasure hunt organized by Kiwanis Sentosa, a charitable organization in JB.
Sui and i, together with my colleague Mei and her sister, formed a team of four, with me as the driver and Sui as the navigator.
Early in the morning at around 7.15am, i picked up Mei and her sister at Jalan Station. The starting point was Pekin Restaurant at Taman Sentosa, where Sui would meet us there.
After registration, we collected the car stickers, t-shirts and sponsored goody bags from Kiwanis CareHeart Centre, which was located just behind the restaurant. We were car number 9. As i didn't wash my car and it was full of dirt, Sui and i gotta wipe the front doors with wet tissue paper before pasting the car number stickers on it.
At 8am, after the person-in-charge gave a short speech, the treasure hunt booklet that contains the clues, sms questions and the tulip map were distributed to each car and we were all set to go.
There were 40 questions in total. The questions for this hunt were rather different from the previous one that i've participated in. Sui and i found the questions to be more difficult and there was no one we could call for help this time.
I can't really recall in details what happened throughout the whole journey. I just remember that we drove around, walked around (under the hot sun), and racked our brains for solving the clues. We wasted a lot of time upfront looking for the answers and by the time we reached the first checkpoint, the organizer had already left the place. In fact, we were so late that we had to give up the last 5 questions and headed directly to the finishing point at Pekin Sutera Restaurant so that we wouldn't incur any penalty for late submission.
Kiwanis was also having a Family Day (Food & Fun Fair event) at the final checkpoint. In the goody bags were coupons for the fair, and we bought some food with the coupons while waiting for the organizer to tally the scores. (And some food means close to 20 fish balls, which i ate all on that day!)
The time came when the answers to the questions were revealed and the winners were announced. We did badly this time, with just 17 correct answers, which means that we had a failing scores. Despite Sui's optimism, with our lousy performance, we didn't even get the consolation prize. I can't recall what the 1st prize was; i just remember that the winning team was an Indian family who seemed to score a very high marks.
Anyway, it was for a good cause and we had fun. That's more important than winning.
(Ya, ya, i say that because i didn't win anything. This statement will not appear in the post tomorrow, when i'm gonna relate the treasure hunt i went to yesterday. )
