The M1 3G device could no longer be used because the firmware that came with it was overwritten. Called up M1 customer service and their reply was that there was no way they could reload it.
For damage to the device, there's a SGD300 penalty. If we discontinue the service within the first 6 months, we still gotta pay for the 6-month subscription of SGD22 per month, which adds up to SGD132. So that's it. We are officially screwed, partly by M1 and partly by ourselves.
Our decision was to continue the service for 6 months and pay for the subscription without using it (we can't use it anyway with the wrong firmware). Then on the 7th month, we will discontinue the service and return the device to them, hopefully by then 贝 would have figured out how to reload the original firmware back to the device.
And now, we are finally connected via Starhub MaxOnline. The monthly fee is more expensive at SGD58, but the connection speed is excellent. Oh, and did i mention the freebie? We got a free wireless router, free modem, free wireless adaptor, free installation and activation. Now i know why Starhub was able to surpass M1 in the telecommunication field.
For us, there were two lessons learnt from this unpleasant experience:
- Firstly, don't be a cheapskate; good thing comes with a price.
(不可贪小便宜) - It's good to be smart, but don't try to be smart unnecessarily.
(厉害就好,不要假厉害)
