I can't recall when we started this pet name for each other. Before that, when we were still colleagues, we addressed each other by our English names. Then when we became a couple, there was a brief moment that we started calling each other 宝贝. Then slowly, we shortened it to just 贝.
There's this funny thing between us that we like to shorten phrases when we are talking to each other. For good morning (早安) and good night (晚安), we would say "安" to each other. For "i love you" (我爱你）, we would say "你". For question like "are you happy?" (高兴吗？), we sometimes would just answer "高".
This is the very special lover's thing between us and no one else would understand. It's like a secret code between us, something that belong to us and just us.
So for the past 8 years, we've been calling each other by the pet name, 贝. The other day i was wondering that if situation does not turnaround and we have to go separate ways, then how are we going to address each other in future? Do we start calling each other by the names again? It would feel so awkward.
Yeah, silly and insignificant thoughts, i know. Just that sometimes these are the things that we will have to think about in the event that things do not go the way we have hoped. It hasn't so far, so i wouldn't be surprised if it continues against my wish.
