Today is mom's birthday. I gave her a treat to western dinner at Yew's Cafe.
I attended my last HOD's meeting in the company this morning, together with the other colleague from IT Department. He was the one who was taking care of the IT infrastructure in the company and left early this year. At that time, under the influence of his insurance team leader, he decided to give up a stable job and go into the insurance line, thinking that it would bring him more income. After more than half a year of struggling, he realized that the irregular income wasn't sufficient to sustain his household expenses, and so he returned to the company. I would have said to him, "i told you so", but i think rubbing salt into someone's wound is gonna bring me bad karma.
During the meeting today, the GM revealed the yet-to-announce new organization chart. I was gleeing in my heart when i heard that IT Department is gonna be placed under the finance wing and hence at the mercy of the
My sympathy goes to the HR guy though. Just like me, he was left alone in his department for a long time, handling everything all by himself. Early this year his ex-employer asked him back with an offer that was SGD2k more than what he was drawing in this company. He tendered his resignation but was later CONvinced by our GM to retract it. The GM promised him that once the company was back on track, he would be made the head of department with big increment. I'm not sure why he would actually choose a promise of something in the future over something confirmed at the present, but i guess he had thought it over and made the choice that he thought was the best at that time.
So now that the company is finally back in business, the HR guy was waiting to receive his due. But instead of delivering what he had promised, the GM said that the situation has now changed because HR is no longer under his care and would go under the CFO as well. The GM said he could only try his best in making the recommendation but the final decision is still in the hand of the future boss of HR Department. This is basically as good as telling the HR guy that he gave up a better offer for nothing because there was bad blood between him and the CFO, who's
To make the matter worse, this HR guy's wife is pregnant and is expecting the baby this December. He can't leave now, or rather, he can't leave for probably at least another 4 months or so because he may have to take frequent leave after having the child and he can't do that if he's still under probationary period in a new company. So he's basically stuck in this shit. I really feel bad for him.
And the moral of the story: if you choose to trust the promises of the management, you are simply screwing yourself.
