A moving video clip

This moves me to tears...

... about dreams, about friendships.

To the gang of my 6 good friends - i hope we will still be doing crazy stuff together when we are at our 80s. Life doesn't seem all that bad when i think about having all of you to walk the journey together.

Labels:

one of my greatest asset is "friends". ^-^
but we seldom do crazy stuffs leh! u all r too serious liao!

ya, lets do some crazy things together. Well, I don't suppose everyone will be joining. But, it's good to get the ball rolling.

There're too many C within us, not many D, who would say just do it.

So what are the crazy stuff that we are going to do when we reach 80? ym

Back to school

Went back to our highschool on Saturday evening for the 97th anniversary celebration dinner. The food was lousy, and the performances were so-so, even though there were a few very good ones, such as the diabolo juggling and martial arts. The singing, dancing and musical performances were supposedly be good, but the audio system wasn't exactly of concert hall standard and the surrounding was too noisy (it was a fund-raising dinner with Chinese full-course dinner served).

Well, that pretty much sums up what i wanted to write about the event of "back to school". What i really want to write about isn't the dinner. That is secondary. What's more important are the fond memories and friendships from that school.

On Saturday morning, Ting gave me a call to ask if i wanna join LF, YM, her hubby and friends to the dinner, but i was still sleeping when she called. When mom told me about it after i woke up in the noon, i told her that i didn't feel like going out that day and would return Ting's call after lunch.

Then before i could call Ting to reject the invitation, LF called instead and i told her that i was too tired, down and lazy to go anywhere. She then told me that it was precisely because of my low spirit that i shouldn't shut myself at home. I should go out, meet friends and have a change of mood. We chatted for a while and she managed to convince me to join them. So i went.

It has been a few years since i last visited our highschool. It was still the same, with the old buildings and students wearing the same uniforms. As we walked in the campus, we reminisced about the good old naive teenage years. We also met a few teachers, one of whom had taught us before and could remember the names of three of them but not me (i wasn't as famous or active as my friends). The teacher chatted with us for a few minutes and told us how different the students are nowadays.

That was when we were reminded again how time flies; we had graduated from the school (well, except me) for almost 17 years already, and our friendships have lasted for more than 20 years!

And that was also when i was reminded of how blessed i really am. (Yes, God does love me!)

Indeed, these friends are my blessings in life, without whom i would never have been able to come this far.

In my love relationships, i've been hurt deeply twice. Yet in friendship, they have always been my pillar of strength. We are the friends who will truly be happy for each other's happiness, and will forever stand by each other in time of turbulence. The countless joyous and sorrowful events we shared for more than two decades keep our hearts close to each other. Sometimes i tell myself, a broken life can be made perfect with friends like them.

Uh huh, 6 wonderful and amazing ladies, who shine in whatever they do and wherever the go, and whom i'm so proud of to be part of their lives.

And my dearest friends, thank you for being part of mine too.

Labels:

Thank you to you too!!

How wish i can join you all.
Hope we will chance to go FY again to chit-chat & recall our happy sweet young time.

So envy.
Had been feeling sick since Friday night. Took medicine and had been sleeping for the whole weekend. Gone all my palnning.
Feel so bad that can't fulfill my promise to bring my mum to school. She must be so dissapointed, but she won't show it :(

Siang, next year during your annual return, let's arrange a "back to school" day, ya! :)

Sui, sorry to know that you are sick (again). We thought you were at the other school campus with your mom and hence did not call you up. Gee, that was quite a bad weekend for you. Hope you are feeling better now. Take care!

phew, finally finished after 4 long days of holidays, and total 14 days since the post went up.

The past weekend

Am still in JB now. Just returned from Desaru about two hours ago. Am on leave tomorrow.

Had a semi-great weekend with friends at Desaru. It would have been absolutely great if it wasn't for my own carelessness.

Siang and her little gal are back in Malaysia. Again, the group of our friends will have a series of group gatherings during the weeks that she's back. So for the past weekend, it was a short get-away at Lotus Desaru Beach Resort.

On Saturday afternoon, i got back to JB at around 2pm. Had lunch with mom and then rushed back home to pack for the trip. LF picked me up from my home and then we met up with Siang and Carol at Siang's home. Carol's husband and their new born baby girl joined us on the trip as well.

We started the drive in late afternoon at around 4.30pm and reached the resort at about 6pm+. Sui, YM and her husband joined us in the late evening because they gotta work on that day.

After i got on to LF's car, i realised i left my mobile phones at home. Then i kept making joke about how i felt handicapped for not having my iPhone with me, but unbeknownst to me at that time was that what i left at home was not just the phones. I actually didn't bring along my glasses as well! As i was wearing contact lenses on Saturday, i only realised it in the night. Not only that i had forgotten to bring another pair of contact lenses (i use daily disposal), i also left my glasses at home.

This means that i became truly "handicapped" today, as i couldn't see clearly for the entire day. My vision was so blurry without the glasses and i had to strain my eyes throughout the day. This made me very tired and even having mild headache now. Luckily my vision is considered medium myopia (degree of 600 and 550) and i could at least still see even though everything was blurry. Imagine that if the degree was higher, i would have been half-blind today.

(The ladies joked that perhaps this is a sign for me to perform LASIK, then i would not have this problem ever again!)

And since i couldn't see clearly, i didn't join in any activities this morning at the resort. I skipped breakfast and also didn't go to the theme park or swimming pool with the friends. I slept till almost 12pm and waited for them to return to the room and then checked out.

Anyway, despite not having any fun at the resort at all, i did enjoy the gathering with all these old friends. Sui, LF, Siang and i had a late-night chat until 3.30am last night, and we haven't been doing this for a very long time already. We also had a great seafood lunch at Pengerang today, and i stuffed myself silly with so much food, including all the junk food that we brought along and Siang brought back from Japan.

On our way back to JB, we stopped by a fruit farm and had some lousy durian. As it was rather late already, we didn't tour around the farm and proceeded with our journey back to JB. We were stuck in a traffic jam for quite a while. There was traffic congestion too on our way to Desaru as well, and so we kinda wondered since when the roads between JB and Desaru have gotten so popular.

All in all, it was not too bad despite some mishaps for me. The most important thing is that i got to spend some very good quality time with the friends who are closest to my heart, and that would have even off all the displeasure.

Labels: ,

ah, it's real waste otherwise it would be a great holiday. THere will be part#2 week gathering since your friend is still around? Suggest to get another spare #2 glasses and stuff it in your handbag so you won't miss it anymore, since you'd never leave that bag (i always put my passport in my travelling bag). THat's the disadvantage of being myopic (haha, my eyes are normal even staring 10hours of computer screen), and always remember don't miss your spectacles on great day!

Since you have friend in Japan, maybe you should visit the country, i heard from my friend that it's a great country to visit - Darn, i'm preaching you to spend money when you should learn to save . By the way, you have GREAT friends!

geez, i really don't have the quality to be a journalist and reporting the truth - all events are completely distorted.. anyway, hope you will another great week ahead, especially the upcoming one with long weekends :)

cheers.

Grace

Last Saturday night, i got sorrow attack again.

Uh huh, i still get it every once in a while, even though it has decreased in frequency and perhaps magnitude too. Yet, the sadness can still be paralysing sometimes.

I was doing my best to not think about it so that i would not cry again, but i do not know why my heart was calling out "贝贝" like the old days and i felt very sad.

It was then i saw my a new drawing from angel:

This came just in time, when i was feeling down. Thank you, angel, once again.

You sure have a talent in arts. I simply love this drawing, beautiful and encouraging. The second column was especially touching, as if God is shining His light on me, wiping away the tears of sorrow.

In fact, just before that, i was thinking to myself that how lonely i am and how i am going to be all alone at my old age. Then a voice in my head said to me, "you are never alone, for you will always have me".

No no no, it wasn't so dramatic as portrayed in movies, whereby there was a thunderous sound from high above, saying all the words in a male voice. It was simply a thought that suddenly crossed my mind, just when i was feeling sorry for myself about being all alone. Nonetheless, God may have indeed spoken to me through these thoughts, reminding me of His grace and how He will never forsake me.

To my friend in sorrow, you too, must never forget that God will always be by your side. We gotta be strong.

Labels: ,

thanks for your sharing! I can understand how you must have felt then...it happen to me very frequently too

sigh, i read you had "ordinary" weekend, but who would think the "ordinary" is reminising the past and feeling sad. I've thought your ordinary is watching TV/movie, chitchat with family/friends and sleeping, and staying cheerful...

Remember the theme song #122 you recently posted - 别再哭了 多不值得.Please stop crying anymore, it's not worth it. it's not worth a single bit.....

My theme song 122

This is what i have on my FB status:

That was after i watched a MTV posted by Sui on FB, and she commented that those who have been crying should stop because it is not worth it.

I guess it should be my theme song.

But more so, it should be for a close friend who is also in agony because of lost love and betrayal.

My friend, there's still a long winding road ahead of us, but we will always have each other. Let this be both our theme song -- this miserable quandary will come to pass one day (难熬的 会经过的).

i hope that you have indeed stopped sobbing for these past days. your friend Sui is right - IT'S REALLY NOT WORTH TO CRY and moan over despicable betrayal, and you (and your close friend too) should gather strength to pull yourself up (which includes your health too) rather than becoming more miserable. i know this is not easy, and nobody understands you more than yourself. but you have friends to support and always standby you, so don't ever think letting them down! you are NOT alone to walk on long winding road.
It ain't worth it. Please don't cry any more. 别再哭了.

A talented win

This is a post about an achievement of the little brother colleague.

He is a guy with talent in arts. He told me that when he was younger, he had thought of being a singer or a artist who draws comics for a living. Then being the only son to two elderly parents (his parents had him at 40+ years old), he had to go for more practical work and in the end he studied IT instead of arts.

Last year, he got himself a DSLR and grew an intense interest in photography. He never had any formal training in photography, and all the skills and knowledge were acquired through reading, research and practise. Yet, within a period of few months since he got the DSLR, he was able to take rather good photographs. I had told him that this is a manifestation of his talent in arts.

Then at around September last year, he went to Melaka to attend the wedding banquet of his friend (who is one of my team members, the pretty girl subordinate). He took the chance to have a holiday there too and went around snapping lots of pictures. He would always shared his photographs on Facebook and i was quite impressed with the work.

At about the same time, there was a photo contest organised by an organisation affiliated to the UN. I got to know about this because i signed up as a volunteer for UNIFEM and got a periodic newsletter from the organisation. The photo contest was about women's rights and i remembered seeing a picture from his Melaka trip that could fit this theme perfectly.

So, i asked him to send in his picture as a support for this cause. Initially he said he didn't think that the picture was good enough, and wanted to go take some pictures over the weekends that could be more professional for entering a contest. Then he was very busy with work and didn't manage to go take more pictures. He told me about it and was reluctant to send in the picture i told him about, thinking that it wasn't really up to the standard and didn't really fit the theme either. I had a different opinion and kept on persuading him to just send it in as a form of support, whether he would win the contest or not. In the end, he did so and didn't think much about it afterwards.

Well, it's really no kidding when Forrest Gump's mom told him that "life is like a box of chocolate and you will never know what you will get". If he had indeed had the chance to go take more pictures and send in a different one, what happened next might not have happened.

His picture actually won the popular vote, among 330 entries from over 28 countries!

He got the chance to receive the award at the UN office and was also featured in news articles. It was really an honour.

I was very happy for and proud of him. He kept on thanking me, saying that it would not have happened if not for me. I told him that i have no part in taking the picture at all and so the honour was all his. I hope this is a great motivation for him to continue pursuing something of his interest and do not put his talent to waste.

Yes, i've always felt that it is a pity for people with talents to not make good use of the gifts that God has given them, a lot of time because of practicality in life. You see, i have always been very envious of people who have talents in arts, which is something i absolutely lack of. I can't draw and don't sing well. I have learnt guitar for a short time when i was in highschool but i never played it well and gave it up. I joined the photography society back in highschool but never really had the talent to produce any good pictures.

So i really hope that this marks the beginning of something for my little brother, and i am glad that i have at least helped to make a difference in someone's life.

Labels:

COOL! and CONGRATULATIONS to your colleague. like a diamond in the rough, you don't know its beauty until you cut and polish it. maybe you should pick up back photography, and hey, you got a great sifu there to learn (so envy).

the thing that you are able to identify and bring out the best of your colleagues and staffs really show you have good leadership quality. don't be so dejected on project management and think living in the woods, you can make a good leader and much better than the bosses you have worked with. believe in yourself!

ops~~ seem like you had narrow down the scope of talent. To me, you are full of talent, those who had read your blog would never disagree that you really have talent in writing. and now you had just shown another rare talent --- you can "see" people.
Haha! maybe you can consider put up a stall, with a crystal ball, telling people what's their talent and what kind of job is more suitable for them.
So do you mind tell me what's my strength first, b4 people start to queue up in front of your stall? ^-^

To an angel

This is to the reader who left me the comment in one of my earlier posts and drew this comic for/about me:

Dear Angel,

After seeing the comics, i was speechless.

Really, what else could i say but a big THANK YOU?

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I'm touched beyond words.

I have no doubt that you are an angel sent by God, to give me a knock in the head, albeit gently. Really, you gotta be my angel, otherwise why would you spend time in drawing such encouraging comics for someone who doesn't matter to you at all in your life?

You are the angel who came to remind me that there are people around who care so much about me even if i am just a stranger. You are the angel who wants me to know that the sorrow that drowns me also sadden the people who stand by me through all these times. You are the angel who wants me to never forget that how i live my life does not merely concern me, but it also affects the people around me.

I can't promise that i will get all well immediately, and please do not expect me to do so either. I will, however, never give up on life, no matter how tough it is. I will make myself a blessing to others despite my own predicament. I will be the strong person whom God has wanted me to be. I will continue striving for happiness even though it seems so far away and even when i'm in the darkest valley, because i shall always remember that there will always be light at the end of the tunnel and up above.

All these, i promise you and everyone else.

And you, my angel, you drew the things i mentioned in my blog before, which shows that you are an avid reader. I am sure that you are not someone i know personally, as i only have one friend who could possibly draw as good as you do, and she would not have the time or energy to do it now, for she has lots of problems of her own too.

Furthermore, if you were any of my friends, you would have known the things in the comics that are different from the real me:
  • I do not wear anything red, pink or purple.

  • I do not wear pyjamas.

  • I do not put my hair behind my ears (even though i must say the hairstyle is indeed rather similar)

  • My eyes are not so big (even though i do have round round eyes)

  • Lastly, i do not have tens or hundreds or thousands of readers. Most who read my crap are the friends who know me in real life, and a few are like yourself, total strangers who strangely keep on reading my nonsense!

So i imagine that you must be a young lady who is very talented in arts. You have a kind and tender heart. You are a cheerful, positive and introspective person.

And is that sidekick in the comics representing you? You are a cat lover? I am a dog person.

I would have drawn an angel for you to show my gratitude, but then i could not draw at all even if my life depends on it. If you do not believe me, check out my pathetic attempt in drawing Snoopy years ago. My drawing skill has only gotten worse since then, or rather, reduced to none now.

So all i can do is to write you this post, saying thank you and thank you again. You have not only put a smile on my face, but also injected some well needed strength in me.

Lastly, do leave a nickname of any kind when you leave a comment, just so that i know it's you. Perhaps "angel" is a good one.

From the still-melancholy-but-hopeful blogger,
pinpin

Labels: ,

Thanks! And more importantly, it serves the purpose to bring smiles into you. I felt honored when you dedicated this blog to me, but aren't you sick and supposed to get early sleep. If you do not recover, I will be more angry and regret for putting up the drawing. (Of course I wish some sort of acknowledgement, but never expect to be this "grand". Thank you! Thank you!)

I first came to your blog in 2007 thru google, maybe I was trying to search about life working in Singapore (FYI, saya orang Malaysia). That time I was moody and dejected with office politics, stress, frustrated, being under-appreciated in work, bullied by landlord, lonely, other unhappy stuffs. It was then your blog showed me about introspections, to look things not just on surface, be optimistic and funny when you were picking on ironies, especially the blogs you posted in 2005 - 2007. You're damn good. Regrettably, I paused in 2008, and one day in march 2010 I casually dropped by ...... and .... but ..... no ......

I'm not eloquent, not good at words (in fact it took me 1.5 hr to write this to choose words carefully), and a "half-past-six” comic artist. My simple wishes are that you get well soon (no more crying in middle of the night), and be the cheerful 彬彬 as you used to be (still hoping, but, i understand). Frankly, I'm flattered when you called me "angel" for I'm not benevolent to everyone. But to me, with your eloquence and intelligence and conscience, you don't deserve to be such pathetic. You certainly don't deserve this, and if it's within my capacity and together with other blog readers, i (we) hope can lift you out from the mud. I have this sense that it will get sian when the very same ppl comments "be good", "get well", "be happy", hence i prefer to remain as anon. Bad excuse huh, since i can always changed the nick but i don't want to lie (or you can check i.p anyway). plus, whether the art can attract more other anon readers to give you support and strength that even more effective, at least you will not sian like "ah, angel again" or "only angel".

I wrote too long. so, stay optimistic, be positive and keep moving forward.

and please, don't cry anymore. you must be strong gal!

Pin:

U r lucky to have friends who always encourage you. This are all God's blessing. Lots of changes in my life, I did not have time to catch up with your blog. But you look bad. compared to the last time i met you.
I suggest:
1) Cut your hair short, real short like you used to have
2) put on a bit of weight.
3) cheer up.
4) skin is bad too.
don't mean to scare you. Pull yourself up now, you are making your body worst. Not worth to continue life like this. Be my cheerful Pin...: )
Love you always.

Meet-up with an old pal

Got back at around 11pm+ from a dinner + tea with DS.

It has been quite a while since our last meet-up, which was the day i moved out from my own home and she accompanied me moving into the temporary place where i went through two months of false hope and agony.

It was an enjoyable evening to be out with an old pal. We talked about our recent lives, updated each other about the recent news of our old pals (and ex!), and also talked about marriage -- how it needs extra hard work to maintain it, with compromises and effort from both parties.

Compared to the last time she saw me, i look different now, with a new hairstyle and slimmed down a lot. She no longer sees a frail, haggard and depressed woman; the person in front of her is polished and composed, and is able to joke and share a good laugh with her.

My one-step-at-a-time of healing is working slowly, but working nonetheless. There's still a long way to go, but at least i am improving bit-by-bit, day-by-day. And i'm sure all my good friends can see and feel it too.

If for nothing else, this is the least i can do for all my dear friends... and for myself.

Labels:

+ you

cheer for u. you r 10x better than the sick old lady i saw months a ago. I was actually shock, very shock to see u. Extremely happy! You are moving two steps faster than i thought. Well done. Keep it up. Ds

Two decades of friendship

Am now very tired, but had a great weekend.

Siang is back in JB with her little daughter. They were back since the previous week when i was still in the US and hence missed one weekend to meet up with them. They are back for a relatively short time this year (departing on coming Wednesday), and the past weekend was the only weekend that i had in spending time with them.

Siang's daughter has grown up a lot for one year. She is rather tall for her age (6 years old), probably inheriting the gene from her parents who are both very tall as well. The little girl is getting prettier each year, and everyone who sees her could tell that she is a Japanese.

The whole group of friends met up on Saturday afternoon for lunch. After that, we went to the Thistle Hotel (where Hyatt Hotel was located). We booked a room there for one night. The room was with two super twin sized bed, joined together to make one big bed with one big blanket.

We chatted for a while in the room while i shared with them the Hershey's chocolates i bought from the US. Later, Siang's little daughter went swimming for a while before we headed for dinner. After dinner, we went to buy sweet corns for supper.

Ting and Carol couldn't stay overnight, while LF missed her flight back from Penang and would postpone her return to Sunday. So only Siang, her daughter, Sui, Min and i spent a night in the hotel. We slept on that one big bed side-by-side, and it wasn't really comfortable as we couldn't really toss and turn at all.

Frankly i didn't sleep too well, as i wasn't really used to sleeping in a static position, and i was feeling very warm in the middle of the night. I was perspiring under the blanket, but since we were all sharing one huge blanket, i couldn't push the blanket away. Finally when it was near dawn, i couldn't take it anymore and got myself out of the blanket and slept on top of it instead.

Anyway, it was a fun experience, and since Monday would be public holiday in SG, it didn't really matter, as i would have one more day to rest.

On Sunday morning, we woke up rather early at around 8.30am. After getting ourselves prepared, we met up with Carol at around 9.30am for breakfast. We had dim sum first, and then proceeded to have kuay tiao kia as second round of breakfast. Yes, we stuffed ourselves silly that morning. I've never ate so much in one morning before. Siang's daughter was amazed at our appetite!

We finished our breakfast at around 11pm. We then went back to the hotel, and Siang's daughter went swimming again. Ting met us at the hotel again before we checked out. We then stayed in the hotel's cafe to chit-chat until 3.30pm+.

We all went to Siang's home after leaving the hotel. While continued our chatting, we also waited for LF to arrive in JB. At around 6pm+, we met up with LF and went for a Thai dinner. Siang did not join us, as she would be having dinner with her family. Finally it was time for everyone to go home after the dinner.

It was a weekend spent on eating and talking. It may sound dull and even unhealthy to many people, but it was actually relaxing and enjoyable. Nothing beats spending quality time with your closed friends.

Siang's annual visit from Japan was the most looked forward event for our group of friends. What made this year even more special is that it's our 20th anniversary.

Uh huh, we have known each other for 20 years! Can you imagine that? This group of friends have walked with me through more than half of my life. Some people do not even get one of such friends, but i actually have a whole bunch of them, 6 to be exact.

We have known each other since primary/high school. From young little girls to young ladies and now mature women; from single to married to becoming mothers or going through separation/divorce (such as me); from students to fresh grads to experienced professionals; from falling in love and falling out of love... We share with each other our happiness and sorrow, our success and failures. We have always been there for each other, despite the physical distance. We may be miles or even oceans away from each other, but we were never really apart in our hearts.

For more than once in my life, whenever i was faced with adversities and felt as if i was unable to carry on, they gave me strength to press on. If my sadness in life is the failure to find true love, then my definite happiness is to be blessed with true friendship. These friends were and will always be the ones whom i know i can rely on, whom i can trust with my life and know without a single doubt that they treasure me as much as i treasure them.

Happy 20th anniversary, my friends! Thanks for being there for two decades. Let's stick around for many more decades to come!

Looking forward for 40th anniversary! Yeah

Positive meet up

So it was right that i didn't cancel the meet-up despite my busy schedule, even though this means that i had to stay up to finish up whatever that i need to do.

The persons i met up with today were the ex-colleagues from the very first company that i worked for in SG. That was also the place where YY and i met and fell in love.

In fact, one of them was actually our ex-boss, whom YY and i had always regarded as our match-maker. Both he and the other ex-colleague had attended our ROM ceremony, and they were actually the only two persons whom we invited from that ex-company.

My ex-boss has a son who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy since the child was eight. Now his son is in JC, and even though wheelchair-bound, the kid has never given up on life. He told his parents that he knew there was no cure to his illness but he would not give up hope so long as he's still alive.

My ex-boss also told me about how his son thanked the parents for bringing him to this world on his birthday, even though this illness was genetically inherited. He also told me about an incident in school whereby during the assembly when all the students were reciting the national pledge, he was trying hard to move his hand (he could hardly move his hands up without assistance from others). Then the teacher noticed it and asked him later what he was doing, and he said that he was trying to put his hand on his chest just like the other students did when they recited the pledge. The teachers were all so touched.

I know my ex-boss shared these stories with me as an encouragement to me. To many people, the condition that his son is having is basically hopeless. Imagine you have a child with such illness, and you have to bring him up with the knowledge that he will leave this world before you. Or imagine you are the kid, who grow up knowing that you can never be like other normal kids, and the older you get, your body function will deteriorate and the nearer you are to leaving this world.

Yet, both the parents and the kid have never given up hope. They cherish all the times they have together, and the kid is a positive cheerful child who lives his life to the fullest every single day. He believes that if he were to leave this world one day, it will be to a better place where God is, where he will be able to walk, move and dance just like anyone else.

I'm not gonna say that there are people who are more unfortunate than me and i should not be so pre-occupied with my own sad story. I'm not gonna look at other people who are in worse state than me and then be relieved that i wasn't so bad. You see, we do not compare sufferings; every life is precious, and everyone should live a happy life.

What i did get from all the messages is hence not about how i'm more fortunate than many people (even though i know i am and i'm grateful for that). What i really thought of is the power of human minds even though human beings are generally weak. How we overcome the adversities in life depend on ourselves and the choices we make.

There are always choices for us in life, and Satan will always tempt us to choose the one that is destructive. At times, obstacles are put before us, and we also get to choose how we want to go forward. Those with weak mind may choose to follow Satan and go the easy way, but those who are willing to endure the hardships and strive on will be the ones who achieve true eternal happiness, whether in the mortal or spiritual world.

So when everything appears to be negative around us, it is even more important that we gotta keep a positive mind. As long as we never give up hope, have faith and hold on to the belief that things will always get better eventually, all the agony will definitely come to pass one day.

Of course i won't suddenly get all healed just after this meet-up, but i do think that i have gotten a lot of positivity out of it. Hopefully this will sustain me for the next three weeks.

I'm on my own now. I need all the positive energy that i can get.

To all my dear friends

... who have been by my side in the real world or in the cyberspace, thank you for being around.

Thank you for being there, giving me moral support, whether shown or unknown to me.

Thank you for putting up with my constant whining, ridiculous self-pity and refusal to get out of this depression.

I've taken a week of unpaid leave and am going away for a short break. I may or may not have Internet connection for the following days.

If i have learnt anything from this ordeal, it would be how unpredictable life can be. The uncertainty in life can simply catch us off-guard at anytime.

So if the unforeseeable happens again and i never come back, i want you all to know that i love you.

I want you to know that if it were not for you all, i wouldn't have had the strength to carry on.

If i were to point out one of the things that i'm most grateful for in my life, it would be to have all of you as my beloved friends, who would stand by me no matter what. This is definitely one of the greatest blessings in my life.

Sorry for having you all worried. Thank you for being such great friends.

[Do not worry for me. This is not a suicidal note. I've mentioned before that death is not an option to me. I'll be back, if God's willing; i'll definitely be back, hopefully better and stronger by then.]

Girl's day out with a realisation

Went out with Sui, Min and Ting today.

The girls have all been very kind to be by my side as much as possible, knowing that i really need all the support that i can get now. To me, the greatest fortune in my life is actually to get to know this bunch of friends who will always stand by me no matter what happens. I am grateful for the friendships and love that have been with me for the past 20 years.

I know they wanted to cheer me up and tried to occupy my time so that i won't think too much. I really appreciate that. It's just that i'm still very down, and i was actually feeling sad the whole day. I did my best not to show my sorrow, and suppress my urge of crying. Then when i was back at home and taking the bath, i finally broke down and cried. I just felt miserable.

Anyway, back to the outing today...

We had afternoon tea at this Red Island Cafe, which i totally gave it two thumbs down. The service was lousy, the food was bad, and the coffee sucked. Seriously, this is the first time i went to a cafe that served coffee that still had coffee powder in it.

Then we went to this Thai massage center where i had my first taste of foot massage for an hour, followed by another hour of Thia traditional massage.

Frankly, i didn't really enjoy the massage much. Besides the masseuse who served me being not very good, i was also feeling very disturbed. All these massages, which were supposed to make me relax (and i actually do need the relaxation now), actually reminded me of the affair. I mean, after all, the whole episode all started from YY's f*cking friends brought him to that f*cking massage center that provides exotic massages and met with that China massage woman who totally mesmerized him. My head was filled with the pictures of how that woman provided exotic massage to YY and how he was so hooked on her.

However, i wouldn't stop going for massages just because of this. In fact, i'm gonna look for SPA and body massage package somewhere and sign up for it. After all, massages (i mean the decent type) are good for health. And as i've mentioned before, there are a lot of places and a lot of things that remind me of 贝, of our happy times together, and of that heart-wrenching affair. If i were to avoid everywhere and everything, then where can i run to really? This is my home. Those are the things i do day-in and day-out. If death is not an option, then my life has to go on no matter what. I gotta face it bravely, and that is precisely what i'm gonna do.

I did have a realisation during the massage though. I suddenly understood why YY was trapped so deeply in the TLC of that woman and couldn't escape from his desires for her.

Massage is a very sensual act. It promotes relaxation and sometimes even stimulates sexual desires (especially the exotic massage that those China women are so good at). So imagine having a personal massage lady all for yourself, as your girlfriend/wife. When you are tired, she will know how to help you to relax by giving you a good massage. When you feel aroused, she knows how to please you with all the right sexual moves. When you feel that you need love and comfort, she knows what to say and what to do to let you feel the TLC. These are all the things that i do not know how to do and cannot do.

So, if i were a man, i'd go for those women as well.

Really, let's analyse this scientifically.

Sexuality, gentleness and subservience are the characteristics believed to be intrinsic to women. Such qualities appeal to the instincts of male species. The modern women like us nowadays are highly educated and a lot are more intelligent and capable than the men. In a way, we can say women like us are somewhat masculine, because we do not display those intrinsic characteristics since we gotta compete with the men out there in our career. Mind you, we compete with the men in our job and not serving them, as opposed to the job of those women. We are independent and do not take serving men as the purpose of our lives.

Yet, most men, if not all, want to feel needed. This is the intrinsic chauvinism in men, where they want to feel that they are the provider and the women are there to serve them. That was why there are cases after cases of marriage being broken up by these China women. These women simply appeal to the innate ego of men and make them feel good.

That is also probably why that the men would feel that women like us who appear to be so independent and strong will survive well without them, whereas those type of women need them more than we do. Well, they are sure right about this, that we indeed do not need men for our survival, which is a great irony again.

Why? Well, you see, it's precisely that women like us are capable of taking care of ourselves in life, and so when we fall in love, it is solely for love and nothing else. We do not need the men to feed us, as we are capable of doing it ourselves. So we look for the one and only whom we will truly devote our love to, and want to love and be loved by this chosen one. That is why when the one we thought who is meant to be no longer loves us, we couldn't take it so easily despite being so strong and independent in our career.

Yet, for those women, they need men for their survival (even if not as boyfriend and husband, their income were still depending on men). Mind you again, they need men, any men who can fit the bill in providing for them and treat them well. It doesn't have to be the one and only. As long as a good one comes by, not too bad from what they need, then they will just hold on to it. If that one man happens to leave them, then they just feel sad for a while, then move on to the next one who can fit the bill again. To them, there isn't such thing as one and only; it's just anyone who can fulfill what they need in life.

Just too bad that man is the kind of animal that wants to feel they are needed. They do not realise that a person who needs you doesn't necessarily mean that it's love. It's just that you so happen to be able to provide for the needs, that's all. True love is not about getting the needs fulfilled; it's that even if she does not need you for anything, she still be with you, care for you, love you for who you are, or even for who you are not.

I just wonder if there is really a man in this world who can fully appreciate this fact. Well, even if there is, i doubt i can be so lucky to meet him. My long history of love life has proven over and over again that i'm one unlucky person who will never find the right man who can love me for who i am forever.

Do not give up on me

My best friends are all tired of my incessant whining and going around in circles, repeating the same thing over and over again. They wrote me email of reproach, demanding me to snap out of this misery that i refused to let go.

I know they did that all out of love for me. So here's my reply to them:

Yes, gals, i know i know, after all the soft approach in giving me support and consolation, now it's time to slap me on my face so that i will wake up, right? Ok, both approaches work on me, coz you all are my dearest friends mah ("拍马屁")... :P

Oh, sorry that i disagree with you on one thing -- I don't have to HATE him. I don't wanna hate anybody in my life, not him nor that woman. I know that by switching the love to hate will be so much easier for me, but i really think what i SHOULD do is not to hate but to detach like you said, i.e. stop loving him. Just like you said, i gotta focus on the bad sides of him and forget about the past. And finally, the most important thing in a few years time is to learn forgiveness. I want to forgive and harbour no more feelings (whether love or anger or pain) towards this person anymore.

Truthfully, i have indeed realised that i was blinded by love for such long years. I have indeed seen through him now, that all those years, i was only seeing the person i wanna see and not the real him. Yes, you are right; in a way, what he saw in that woman is akin to what i saw in him, thinking that the person we love is so good. I seriously realised already, that he is really not worthy of my love, or even worthy of being with me at all. I can really do so much better without a man like him.

But then, is it really wrong to not wanting him to be miserable in the end? Do we really have to make the person who did us wrong suffer a great deal? Actually it's not just him; even at work, i don't feel good to make people suffer. Even for a normal friend, i'd wanna help out, moreover a person i love. I know, i should detach and stop caring about him; just take him like a stranger whose life or death has nothing to do with me anymore. I am telling myself to do that, really. Just that it doesn't happen overnight.

I do hope you all can understand that love is not something that we say wanna stop then just stop, moreover the love is so deep and for so many years. (It's the same with him i guess, that he couldn't stop his love for that woman, even though i still can't understand how the love can be developed so fast and so deep in such short time, but then, i dun have to understand it anymore bcoz it's illogical.) I know it's the mind power, but as my friend EY said to me, love is something illogical. As much as we can rationally tell ourselves what to do, actually doing it is not simple and takes time. So basically, i need time to "stop the love", or maybe to convert the love into something else like forgiveness (so difficult!).

I am working on it lah, and progressing everyday actually. For one, i didn't cry at all yesterday! (Yay to that!) Small steps, but moving forward slowly really. Don't give up on me yet please!

Yes, whoever reading this, whether you know me in real person or not... if you have been by my side, vocally or silently, please continue to love and support me. I know i have been ridiculous, but please do understand that healing takes time (and it's actually not that long yet since it happened), and i am working on it everyday.

I will heal, i'm sure of that. How long, i don't really know, but i will stand on my feet again.

I will. I promise.

Need friends

Had dinner with EY yesterday, and this should be the last meet-up we had before his departure to China for a year. I won't know when we will meet again, probably next year. By then, i hope all problems in his marriage will be resolved already, and i will be able to greet him with a happy smile too.

I'm really glad that he was here during the time i needed a friend the most, even though he couldn't stay long. His return to SG helped me a lot. It had been a very long while since i last have a heart-to-heart talk with a guy friend. To hear a different story and to get advice from a normal guy (not counsellor) are different from that of gals. It helped me to accept that certain things are just the way they are, for no reason at all. If i really demand one reason, it will simply be -- because they are men!

Actually i do not have a lot of friends here in SG. Those whom i could really pour my worries and rely on are all in Msia, and the only two i have here in SG (i.e. DS and Carol) are both married with kid or expecting a kid. So they can't really be with me every single day. The recent one whom i got really close with like a big sister to me is my housemate, but she also has a different group of friends and once i moved out of the house, i am not sure if we will still be this close anymore.

I guess it's really time for me to widen my social circle, so that i can get to know more friends in SG, whether male or female.

Labels:

Yes, I do agree with you and glad that you have seen the need in enlarging your social circle.

I hope you'd consider also to offer yourself to some community service or social work or church activities such as International Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). -LF

I am happy for u. I will Kiss ET when I see him. Thank him for open up your mind. I am still trying to find out more social work for u.

Pls call when u need help, i feel so bad not able to take care of u well. I will be happy if u call for help. Be strong ok. DS

Ya! I hope u mean what u said, really.
Read an article yesterday.
In summary is write down 50 things which u want to do, regardless how illogical it is. Then just select one of it, do it. Don't worry about other issue, what no accompany lah! No time lah! No this, no that lah!
All of this are not reason, it's excuse in fact. The true & only reason is we lack of courage & determination.

Another late night

Just got back at around 3.30am.

Met up with EY again and had a really long chat at the same kopitiam.

He shared with me more about the problems he had in his marriage this time. I felt bad for him. Both his wife and him still love each other, but due to personalities and values clashes, they could not live well together.

I find that really depressing. What happens to the marriages nowadays really?

How i wish both of them can work things out and live happily ever after. I mean, unlike me, the love has become one-sided from me while my husband's heart has already gone to another woman, it's really a pity that a marriage is in jeopardy because of such differences when the two still love each other dearly.

Differences can be resolved through compromises as long as the love is still there, as long as both parties care enough for each other and want the marriage enough to make sacrifices. Yet, when love has disappeared from one party, what's left is just betrayal and eternal heartache.

EY helped me to put things into perspectives, from a guy's point of view. My sadness is illogical, because we are talking about the loss of love here. Love defies all logic. On the same token, he said, what YY did to me was illogical too, and that's because of love too, i.e. his crazy love for that China woman. So, stop asking why he doesn't know the meaning of marriage, why he treated me like this, why he did this to me, why he had a change of heart, why he is so cruel and heartless to me, why he felt nothing about committing adultery, why he has no moral values... all these whys are pointless, simply because there are no logical explanations at all. I'll just have to accept it as it is.

It felt good to have a friend here who can talk to me face-to-face, and to give me advice and share with me his problems, which took my mind off my own problems.

Gosh, how i miss the good ol' days. He would be leaving SG soon and i'll sure miss having him around.

Meet up with old friend

It's late, and i just got back half an hour ago.

Had a long chat over teh tarik with EY, an old friend from my university days. He is back in SG for a short break before heading to his new job in China next week.

He used to work in TW with his Taiwanese wife. When i travelled to Taipei frequently last year, we contacted each other and he had asked me to visit them at Kaohsiung but i was too busy then to do so.

It was great to see him in person again after so many years. He is very concerned about me after knowing what happened. He had asked for a meet up several times but i was too depressed to do so.

Today, we finally met up and had a great chat for hours. I am surprised at how we could talk like old friends despite not contacting frequently for so many years. The feeling this time was very different from our last meet-up several years back; this time, it really felt like old days, when we were close friends who could tell each other almost anything.

He gave me lots of words of encouragement and advice. He sprouted nonsense and jokes, talked about old times and his share of problems in his marriage. For a few good minutes, i was laughing happily, something that i've not been doing for 4 months since the onset of this event. It feels good to be laughing again; i've almost forgotten this feeling... yes, i can still be happy if i want to, definitely.

I feel a lot better now after having a good chat with my old friend. I should really go out more with friends, or get to know more new friends, instead of staying in the rented room feeling sorry for myself.

I thank God for sending EY back at this difficult time of mine. The timing is just so right that i know He must be looking after me dearly, making sure i am surrounded with people who care about me, so that i can stand up again with the help of all these people around me.

Yes, i may have lost 贝's love forever, but i have the love of so many people and from Him. With all these love, i'm sure i will stand on my feet again.

Thank you

I don't have much time, as i'm still busy with work at this hour. Have been sleeping late for the past couple of days, so am really tired beyond words.

Even though i'm pressing for time, i still must squeeze out a bit for this post.

I have been expressing my unhappiness on this blog and in Facebook. What followed were messages, sms and emails from friends, near and far, known and anonymous.

You have no idea how much this meant to me. During tough times like this, all these caring words and encouragement really go a long way.

I've always known that there are people who care for me, but when we are entangled in the woes of life, we often forget about the people who are important to us.

Thanks everyone, for letting me know that i'm loved, for reminding me of how fortunate i am to have friends out there who will always stand by me no matter what.

And for that, i will be strong. I will be happy.

A good friend's wedding

It was Min's big day yesterday.

Finally, after 14 years of courtship, she tied the knot with her boyfriend.

We were at her home early in the morning for the Chinese customary ceremony. Well, being the bridesmaids, we of course dutifully prepared a series of challenges for the groom and his best-men before allowing the groom to see the bride. The groom was so nervous that his hands were all shaky!

We asked the groom to peel a pomelo barehanded, do some yoga poses, sew two pieces of heartshaped cloth filled with red beans, and sing a song. Of course, the angpao for the "sisters" was also something mandatory.

We had fun, even though the guys teased us later on for giving such easy tasks. We could only blame ourselves for being too nice, as we did not want to play any games that would embarrass the groom too much, or cause any harm to him (like eating something that might make him sick in the stomach). I guess the result for being considerate was to be laughed at.

Anyway, after the morning session, we all went home to rest for a while and to doll up for the wedding banquet. We were the receptionists for the bride's side, so we again dutifully sat by the entrance to welcome the guest and collect the angpao.

The wedding dinner went well, with good food and nice entertainment provided by the live band and the video clip of the morning session. Min, being the princess of the day, looked absolutely stunning. It was also the first time we saw her hubby in formal wear.

Despite a few insignificant glitches here and there, the whole wedding day went smoothly. It was tiring yet memorable. Min and hubby were off to China for their honeymoon today, and hope they have great fun... and possibly make babies too... heh-heh...

Wish them happily ever after.
